YOKO MURONOI
Born in Yokohama. Inspired
by Buto dancing, Muronoi started her dance training during her first year at
university in order to pursue the art of physical expression. After attending a
two week lecture by Buto dancer, Akira Kasai, she joined the Buto dance company
"Seiryu-kai" from 1982 to 1984.
In 1985 she started her solo activity and
since then has consistently pursued the path of improvisational dancing. She has
been active on stage in Japan and in various countries. Her solo pieces include
"Dark Hand, Bright Hand," "Don't look at flowers," and "MON-YO :patterns." She
has also worked in alliance with other dancers, musicians, fine artists, video
artists and costume designers. She is searching for the occurrence of dance and
appear in the various scenes, the stage of dance companies, classical Japanese
dance and dramatic performances, or art exhibitions, performance festivals, live
concerts and films.
Since 1991 she has also joined the Institute of Physical
Education in Tokyo to train the art of Seitai and to investigate bodily movement
from the point of internal body work.
The project of dance + sound "Moire
Penetrant" was realized in collaboration with a musician, Ikuro Takahashi from
1999, and developed into the performance unit "ANOYO NO DEKIGOTO" from
2000.
Yoko is always standing on a new shore, which has a memory of the
beginning with a mist from the future. Her body and spirit go back through
silence to the distant past and go forward through violence to the distant
future\\as if she could step on the earth and stars at the same time. (Kenji
Fukuma, poet)
